About Us

Our Rocky journey started with a family friend showing Marie a picture of a beautiful chocolate stallion. At the time, we were tentatively on the lookout for a horse that Stuart (husband & novice rider) could ride safely. Needless to say, one thing led to another and before we knew it, our first filly was reserved at a couple of days old. That young black filly was Secret, bred in Germany by Toril Strooper, and in time she turned into a beautiful black swan - she is pictured here as a foal - photo credit: Toril Strooper.

There then followed a number of European and American imports. From the USA, we first imported four horses  (Sangria, Sita, Sorbet and Nehi), quickly followed by a further two (Satin and Lady), and finally a group of three (Grace, Tess and Lilo), some of which were in foal. We have also sourced fabulous horses from Europe, hand picking the best horses from Germany, France and Belgium.

From these early beginnings, aided by a huge investment in land, quality youngstock and excellent breeding mares and stallions, we now have four stallions and colts, fourteen mares and retained fillies. Our investment in this breed is our tribute to those who have gone before us, and we owe it to future generations to preserve, promote and increase numbers with responsible breeding decisions. For that reason, it is the policy of the Cornmill Stud to never breed homozygous silver Mountain Horses. We also advocate late weaning at around a year old.
